Bir gün Nasreddin Hoca, komşusundan bir kazan ister. İşini bitirince kazanın içine küçük bir tencere koyup geri iade eder. Kazan sahibi tencereyi görünce:

– Bu nedir? Diye sorar. Hoca cevap verir:

– Müjde! Kazanınız doğurdu. Bu haber komşusunun hoşuna gider.

– Pekala! diyerek tencereyi kabullenir. Hoca yine bir gün komşusundan kazanı ister. Alır ama bu sefer iade etmez. Sahibi bir süre bekler. Kazanın gelmediğini görünce, Hocanın evine gelir, kazanı geri ister. Hoca üzüntülü bir çehre ile:

– Sizlere ömür, kazan öldü! der. Komşu hayretle:

– Aman Hocam, hiç kazan ölür mü? Deyince, Hocanın cevabı hazırdır:

-Kazanın doğurduğuna inanırsın da, öldüğüne niçin inanmazsın? Hoca, daha sonra kazanı iade eder. Zaten maksadı, çıkarına çok düşkün olan komşusuna, iyi bir ders vermektir.
